DirecPC works by using the latest in satellite technology. The PC user with DirecPC requests a file across a normal telephone line, but receives all services via the satellite - which is real fast - making ISDN look like smoke signals!

Specifically, DirecPC is a satellite, one-way broadcast system received by PCs equipped with an PCI adapter or a external USB adapter and a 21" elliptical antenna. All requests sent out by the end user are made via conventional methods such as modem, ISDN, cable modem or DSL to the Network Operations Center or NOC. DirecPC uses multiple transponders on Galaxy IV and GE I to provide 36 Mbps of broadcast capacity to the end user while DES encryption based conditional access ensures that a receiver PC may only access data the NOC has authorized it to receive. DirecPC is an excellent choice for customers in rural areas that do not have access to other highspeed services.
